Joseph E. Johnston to Coralie Henry Johnston, August 4, 1890

[Joseph Eggleston Johnston at Washington City to Coralie Henry Johnston at 107 South First St. c/o Dr. George Ben Johnston, Richmond, Virginia, August 4, 1890, folder 635, Trigg-Floyd Collection, Special Collections, John Cook Wyllie Library, The University of Virginia's College at Wise (formerly Clinch Valley College), Wise, Virginia. This is my rough transcription.]

Washington, Aug't. 4th 1890

My dear Corelli (is that the way you spell it?) [Coralie],

Do you remember telling me that you wished, or would like to go to the Rockbridge Alum Sp [Springs] and my offering myself for your escort? Are you in the same mind now? As to the Springs and the escort? If you are I am. So let me know please, and if you are will arrange about this trip -- time of starting &c.

If it were not so awfully hot I'd go to Richmond and question you viva voce. But as it is hot I must depend on the mail.

In replying to this write your name legibly -- so that I may know how to spell it hereafter.

I am told that Joe has gone to Abingdon, and hope it is so.

Yours affectionately
J.E. Johnston
