Joseph E. Johnston to Coralie Henry Johnston, August 7, 1890

[Joseph Eggleston Johnston at Washington City, to Coralie Henry Johnston c/o Dr. George Ben Johnston at 107 South First Street, Richmond, Virginia, August 7, 1890,  folder 636, Trigg-Floyd Collection, Special Collections, John Cook Wyllie Library, The University of Virginia's College at Wise (formerly Clinch Valley College), Wise, Virginia. This is my rough transcription.]

My dear Coralie,

I have received your note. Am to be away until Monday [August 11, 1890], then will either go to Richmond for you, or tell you when to meet me in Charlottesville. The first seems to me best, now. Your escort will be your banker, of course.

Most affectionately your

J. E. Johnston

[Coralie Henry Johnston (1861-1954); her father, John Warfield Johnston (1818-1889) had died on February 27, 1889, at the age of 70
Joseph E. Johnston (1807-1891); his wife Lydia McLane Johnston had died in 1887 at the age of 65
George Ben Johnston (1853-1916)
]

Many thanks to William Myers, Mary Davy and Sally Young for their ongoing research collaboration.
