Many thanks to William Myers, Mary Davy, Sally Young and Sue Davis for their ongoing research collaboration; specifically to William for providing a scan of the original document (as well as a scan of the above photograph), and in turn many thanks to Peter Johnston Binckley and Patricia D'Arcy "Trish" Binckley (1951-2007), at the source.

My dear son,

Give praise to God! Your Mary is safely through her pain & peril, with a great double-fisted boy in her arms. He was born about two hours ago, after giving her a more tedious & painful time than usual, owing to his uncommon size. He is just Harvey over again, perhaps a pound or so larger.

She was sick about 10 hours -- very intense suffering for two.

The baby is perfect, & has the lungs of a Stentor.

Mary is all right, & has every prospect of doing well. Dr. Selden is sick, so we had to call in Dr. Moore, who gives great satisfaction.

We hear from Mrs. Kidwell that you are at Columbus -- so I direct to that place.

With love & congratulations from Mary & children accept the sincere affection of your
