Buried in Darwin Cemetery on the west bank of the Wabash River, Darwin, Illinois.

Parents: Joseph France (circa 1808-1880)  and Fanny Weidner (Widener) France (circa 1816-1857), both of Pennsylvania (married in 1838 near New Berlin, Ohio). Stepmother as of December 15, 1867: Eliza Jane Hall (unknown dates).

Jeremiah C. France, Company G, 43rd (Forty-third) Indiana Volunteers, 1861-1865. Died January 17, 1865. Buried in Crown Point Cemetery, Indianapolis, with mispelled headstone. 
Ira Barnes Slack, Company C, 85th Indiana, August 11, 1862-May 14, 1864. Killed at Resaca, Georgia. Probably buried on the battlefield. Site of remains unknown.
