3 June 1859. Friday.

Breakfast with Doct. Walk with him, & to barber shop, introduced to a number of gentlemen, buy some good cigars, a new notebook, old one filled.

Separate from Doct. and go down to Wirick's. Dave absorbs me. I get no chance to talk to others. Poor fellow, not often he gets any one to listen to him. Advise him to go west & [to] Europe. Wife won't. Promise Every aid in my power in his scientific aspirations.

Take my leave, & off to Pettit's. All are to meet us at Depot.

At Pettit's, meet Mrs. Scott again. Pass down with her on her way home, she is to go to live with son Willy, in city Newark. Then she is to come to Washington & make our house her home.

Enter a book store with her, and buy and present Thompson's Seasons. Also, gave Marg a present, the only one, as she reminded me, that I Ever gave her.

Parted from Mrs. Scott, & hailed an omnibus. All hands but Wirick's and Marg, got in. and we drove to Depot. There met by all  [to be continued.]
