New Products! Dover, Ohio, 1839-1840

In 2015, one can probably recognize every single item here listed in an 1839/40 newspaper ad for Samuel Fertig, Grocer, Commission Merchant, & Boot & Shoe Manufacturer, East side of the Canal, except perhaps for Salaratus (baking soda) and Loco Foco Matches (stick matches).

Imagine the excitement of availability!  Canal Dover, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, The Ohio Democrat (December 25, 1840).  Joseph and Fanny France and their fledgling family lived within the environs of Canal Dover in 1840 (population about 600 at the time).
